On The Record

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

The short version

On The Record is built to hold as little of your information as possible. Everything you enter about your case is stored only in your own web browser (in local storage) on your device. It is never sent to us or to any server. We could not read your case if we tried.

What we store, and where

  • Your case data — incident details, sources, letters and evidence notes — stays in your browser only. Clearing your browser data deletes it, which is why we encourage you to back it up.
  • Files (videos, photos) are never uploaded. You may generate a fingerprint (hash) of a file in your browser; only that fingerprint and the file name are stored, not the file.

Analytics

If enabled, we use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to count page visits in aggregate (for example, how many people viewed a guide). This does not track individuals, does not use cookies, and never sees your case data. No personal profiles are built.

Payments

If you pay for a Case Unlock or a subscription, the payment is handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy. We never receive your card details, and your case data is never sent to Stripe — only the payment is.

If you contact us

If you use the "done-for-you" form or email us, that opens your own email app and sends what you choose to write to hello@getitontherecord.com. We then hold that correspondence in order to help you, and use it only for that purpose.

Your rights and control

Because your case data lives on your device, you are in control of it: you can export it or wipe it at any time from within the app. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, contact hello@getitontherecord.com.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service develops. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new date above.
