On The Record

Terms of Use

Last updated: July 2026

What this is

On The Record is a self-help information tool that helps you preserve CCTV footage and organise evidence using rights available under Irish and EU data-protection law. By using it, you agree to these terms.

Not legal advice

On The Record provides general information and document templates. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, and using it does not create a solicitor–client relationship. Every situation is different. For anything serious, consult a qualified solicitor, and if a crime has occurred, report it to An Garda Síochána.

Accuracy and your own judgement

We work to keep the information current, but we do not guarantee it is complete, accurate or up to date. Retention periods for CCTV are typical estimates only and vary by operator. You are responsible for checking details, for what you send, and for meeting any deadlines that apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, On The Recordand its operators are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the tool — including footage that is deleted, requests that are refused, or deadlines that are missed. The tool is provided "as is".

Acceptable use

Use On The Record only for lawful purposes — to assert your own rights or, where you are authorised, those of a person you are helping. Do not use it to harass, intimidate or unlawfully surveil anyone.

Payments

Some features are paid: a one-off Case Unlock and a subscription for practices. Prices are shown before you pay and payment is processed by Stripe. Subscriptions continue until cancelled. Because a Case Unlock gives you immediate access to digital content, you agree the service begins at once and the statutory cooling-off period does not apply; even so, if something has gone wrong or you were charged in error, email hello@getitontherecord.comand we'll deal with it fairly. Nothing here affects your statutory consumer rights.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction.
